Nothing is more practical than hardware based security
Software based security has been at the forefront for several years and has led to a flourishing industry. Clearly, the flexibility of software based security has attracted a lot of attention. However due to many recent attacks, many experts realize that hardware based security is practical. In this talk, we will discuss the advantages of hardware based security in terms of parameters such as power, speed, flexibility, cost and of course security.
About the panel speaker:
Vincent van der Leest is Director Business Development at Intrinsic-ID, responsible for the customer and funded project portfolio in Europe. Before becoming Director Business Development he has been involved in Intrinsic-ID's PUF technology research as a Senior Project Leader, leading FP7 projects including UNIQUE and PUFFIN. In the UNIQUE project Vincent was amongst others responsible for taping out a 65nm ASIC containing 6 different types of PUFs. Because of Intrinsic-ID's participation in the PUFFIN project, they have been nominated for the 2016 Innovation Radar Award of the EU. At the award event in Bratislava in September 2016 the pitch from Intrinsic-ID was selected as the overall winner of this prestigious prize.
During his time in these projects Vincent's research was focused on PUFs, coding theory and hardware security implementations. Vincent has published a number of papers in these areas, among others at (hardware and security) conferences like CHES, DATE and HOST. He is regularly invited to teach lectures on Physically Unclonable Functions. Vincent holds a masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology and he has worked for major Dutch companies ASML, Philips and ProRail before joining Intrinsic-ID in 2009.
